Agencies in Manchester or Liverpool experiences

Post by mummyofmylittlestar »

Hi after the recent disappointment with Kelly Management my daughter and I have realised it is actually for the best anyway. She loves theatre and a london based agent is probably not really right for her as they are unlikely to be covering the shows in our area. We live in between Liverpool and Manchester and I have been looking at agencies in those areas and found a couple of really good ones, or so they seem from their websites. Has anyone experience of Urban Talent or Rare Talent agencies?

I know some adult actors who are with Urban Talent. As far as I know they ar happy there and certainly one of them has had some interesting work recently!

Thankyou pg they do seem to be successful and have only a few children most of whom seem to have done a lot, so fingers crossed for an audition now, I've sent all of the forms off, fingers crossed xx

I've looked at the web site of Urban Talent and many of their children seem pretty successful as do their adults, with the BBC moving their children's dept to Manchester soon (if they haven't already begun) they may call on Northern agencies more for talent.

Thankyou francescasmum, i've applied and had an email back to ask if I wanted representation for either acting or modelling, but have heard nothing since i replied. We are just hoping that's not a bad sign. xx

I hadn't realised they did just modelling. My dd was impressed because they have Barney Harwood on their books. :D

I have always been a bit wary of Scream because I think you have to pay for the initial workshop and they have an annual management fee plus mark up Spotlight membership ...

Oh dear. They have said £15 for the workshop which is an hour and a half long so I am happy to pay that to be honest as the audition experience will do her good and they are doing script work, improv and singing which will be good experience for my little dd too. I know many agencies ask for spotlight which I know you have to pay for but I didn't realise they charge an annual fee as well. Do you have any idea how much that is? Or if they do get much work for their clients? Thanks

Re. fees etc, there is a 'shop' section of their website where you can find all the charges involved: http://www.shopatscream.com/shop.asp?cat=9. Personally I don't like the fact that you have to pay £119.50 for Spotlight membership when the actual Spotlight fee is £90 for children/young performers this year. Obviously you have to pay for headshots, everyone has to do that, but you seem to have to pay for casting book/web entry, attend a minimum of 4 workshops a year if I remember correctly and I am not sure what the annual management fee is but there does seem to be one .... I suppose you could go along to the workshop and see what you think, but I would be sure to do the maths before signing anything and make sure you are comfortable with that!

There are some previous threads about Scream on the site, so worth doing a bit of a search. Here's one I started, which shows the usual mixed experiences with agents so I am not sure how much help it is: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12168&p=159873&hili ... nt#p159873

My DD never went for the audition in the end, but some people seem very happy with them.

Good luck whatever you decide to do!

Thanks Sapphire i had a look at both of your links and you're right very mixed feelings on them from people with experience. I will have a chat with my little dd and see if she wants to go to the workshop and you are right if offered representation we could consider and do the maths then. This is all turning into a minefield ha ha. How is your daughter doing with kelly management?
thanks
