Junior theatre school auditions

Post by singaporesing »

Hi my ds has been performing professionally overseas since 6 and we are considering auditioning for theatre schools in uk for age 9/10. Does anyone have any insights into Tring Park prep are they good alround school or more ballet focus? Any tips on audition days at Tring or Sylvia Young? Living overseas we not in loop on school info..don't know whether to leave it til he older then apply but out here there's no alternative training school option available to him and I understand that the audition process takes place months before entry. Anyone done Tring prep?

we have done Tring prep - DS was offered a place however we are sadly not in a financial position to take it up so had to decline as no scholarship was offered, although he was top of the reserve list.
DS was year 6
It took the form of a modern dance class, all students participating.
A written piece of work in the form of an essay
Q and A with the heads of department which was really interesting.
Solo song and a monologue of your choice.
That was the scholarship audition day, but I don' t know if there is anything different for normal paid entry

good luck :D

DD had 6 extremely happy years at SY and I would recommend it.

Audtions are workshop based then dance/drama/singing auditions as well as academic exams..tell you child just to be themselves..x

Good luck..
I believe that children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.......
