Offers from 2 agents?!

Post by Sandy78 »

Can anyone help me? DD has been offered to join two different agencies. Once seems to have lots of adult actors that work a lot on stuff even I've heard of and they seem really nice!! But the kids bit is small. But maybe that's a good thing?!!!! the other one is one that seems to be a well known kids agent but they have LOADS of children. Anyone had any experience of this dilemma? want to do what's best but don't really know what I'm doing!! DD's dad isn't sure he even wants her to do it so no help ther! xx

It depends how much comes in to adult agency for children If children's agency is good and CD com better e to them as long as they do not have any child that looks like your childthen prob better to go with children's agency. What age is your child? If coming up to 16 then to go with adult agent. If your child has a very good CV and done some high profile work then dose not really matter who she goes with as agent will be able to get her seewith out any trouble

From my personal experience I would really recommend going with the agency with more adult actors and fewer children. My DS is with an agent with very few child actors (and many many adults) and I find the agent has excellent relationships with casting directors and is getting into far more high profile projects at a far earlier stage than we got when he was represented by a well known children's agent. This may just be my perception but from the 15 or so castings I've been on with him since he got signed we seem to be getting into castings that are far less 'open call' and workshop based (thus far far less waiting time!) and far more focused auditions with the CD and director spending more time with him. Also, the advice our adult agent gives is far more indepth and personally catered than the advice previously given by the previous children's agent. The only downsides I've found so far is the adult's agent takes a slightly higher percentage and that my DS used to attend a lot of workshops at his agency organised by CDs that he enjoyed and that the adult agent doesn't do.

Don't know how old your dd is but perhaps go with the one with more adult actors and less children, because if you go with the one with lots of children your ds may just get lost. And the other agent sounds more personal and will work for your dd. When your dds older, she may well have to move agents anyway - you already sound like you get a good feeling about them, so go for it.

I guess it depends on how old your child is. My DC was 9 when he started out and he was also lucky to be given a choice. We opted for an agent that mainly deals with adult actors (pot luck for him...we didnt have a clue!) and he hit very lucky. DS is now pushing 17 and happily anticipating a long working relationship with agent (hopefully) into adulthood. Agent gets same breakdowns as all the childrens agencies so we have never had a problem. Based on our experience, unless your child is really young, go for an agent that does not solely represent children.

Wow, you guys are great, thank you for your responses. DD is defintely on the younger end of who they rep, 6 rising 7. But they're starting at age 6 and so I think I'll give it a try - Genevieve you're right, I do have a good feeling about them. They were really warm and friendly to DD when we went into visit and I felt less like a panicky mummy. I'll let you know how we get on!! thank god for this website!xx

you're very lucky - Its a pain when you feel you're unable to call your agent for fear of feeling pushy or something..sounds great already - Some have to change agents ..just to get that kind of rapor and feeling ! you want the best for your children and an agent you feel isn't wasting your dds and dss time and one who will give your dd or ds the opportunities that made you look to an agent in the first place - Don't waste time, you've got a goodun there - they sound so nice !
