Mandy.com casting help

Post by Ellie8989899301 »

Hi,
I recently applied for a role on mandy.com for a programme called, 'Is it because' and I have been asked to audtion this Wednesday. Did anyone else apply for this?
Here is the link:
http://www.mandy.com/1/cast3.cfm?v=47263527&terr=uki

It says that it is for a tv series, but I have looked on the Internet and can't find anything about it or anything else that Star Factory have cast. I sent them a message to ask what channel it will be on and what the filming schedule will be like and they replied with, 'If you attend the audition, you will get all those details.'

Is this the way mandy.com usually works or is something not quite right do you think? I am probably being overly cynical though.

Thank you for your help.

http://www.angelstages.com/castings/5360 found this whilst looking for an answer for you notice it was advertised back in January. The plot thickens no comment on legitimacy.

Equity contract TV roles are not generally advertised on Mandy. I think you are quite right to be cynical. and are wise to have done some research. Spelling/typing/grammar not too great either...

I would imagine that if this is a genuine casting that it is for a TV pilot pitch. I suspect you will find that it isn't paid in the first instance and that the "Equity contracts" would be if it were picked up by someone.

If they are not able or willing to tell you what the filming schedule is, then I would be very suspicious. Most agents would not send their clients to auditions if they didn't know the filming dates etc (at least approximately) as this might mean wasting time at an audition when they actor would not in fact be available for filming. This would inconvenience the actor of course, but more significantly it could also inconvenience the production company and waste their time. CDs don't want to see people who are not going to be available.

If you do decide to go, make sure you take someone with you to the audition and don't hesitate for one moment to walk away if you are not comfortable or are unhappy with any of the information you get.

My own feeling is that if you don't go you won't have missed out on any kind of potential "big break"... It just doesn't ring true I'm afraid. In your shoes I would want a lot more information before spending time and money going to an audition. Please do report back if you do go though!

Thank you so much for all your replies! I've decided not to go for this one because it would be a three hour train journey and I don't feel very comfortable with it.
In our local paper the other day there was a local company looking for presenters for a children's programme for the local council, so I will go to that to see if I can gain on-screen experience that way.
Thank you again- this is why I love this site!

Oh good grief, I've just read the Angel Stages one!

What a load of garbage. Glad to hear you are going to give this one a miss. Good luck with the possible presenting opportunity.
