Did I make the right choice?

Post by Jellybabies »

Hello everyone, would love people's opinions !

In January I left my old Agency and joined a new one - I won't say the name of my old Agency but you can probably guess who they are if I describe them - they are known for having something like 1000 children on their books!
Basically I left them because I did feel treated like a number amongst many and I really felt that my Agent didn't know who I was. However, I did get auditions quite regularly , but often I felt they were for jobs I wasn't really suitable for.

I was lucky enough to be accepted onto an Agency with a really good reputation and with few clients on their books, but in the 5 months I've been with them I haven't had a single audition. I'm of course not accusing them of not doing their job, I've had lots of contact with them and I'd like to think theyre submitting me for lots of jobs etc.

However, I am now sort of left thinking did I make the right choice to change agencies? I have been trying to tell myself that it is better to have only a few auditions for stuff I really am suited for than lots of auditions for things I'm not ..... but as I'm sure you can imagine it's hard when I so far have not had any auditions this year! I know it's not uncommon in the industry to go this long without any auditions, but having gone from having maybe one audition every month or two to none, I can't help wondering about all the auditions that I might of got if I had stayed with my other agency!

I would love to hear anyones thoughts! :) thanks !

Sounds ok to me. Your new agent just sounds more selective. When the roles come they will be much bigger and you'll have a better chance of success as they will be more suited to your experience and talents. I think you just need to be a little more patient and if not you can always ask them what they've put you forward for. Sometimes the agent puts you through for lots of things it's just the CDs don't pick you.

Best of luck!

Of the many castings you got from your original agent, did you bag many of the jobs? If you did and you feel those jobs were good ones then I can understand why you might question the difference, but if you didn't get the jobs, just the castings then you are def with the right agent now. I don't think it is good for you to go to castings that you aren't well suited for - and wastes your time and money and also takes the wind out of your sails! My dc's agents only put them up for roles they are really suited for and I am so grateful for that. Hang on in there - it will come good I am sure x

Did the auditions from the previous agent arise from casting directors requesting you from spotlight or your agent putting you forward for stuff?

Thank you for all your replies!!!

I did get one or two roles in small projects - but I sort of felt like I got them just by chance as opposed to expecting to get them .... if that makes any sense?

mouskouri41 - I'm not actually sure how I got them as my agent never said - do they usually come through the agent putting you forward?
