Best format for a DVD audition?

Post by Katymac »

DD needs to submit a DVD audition to a college for an associate scheme.

I'm assuming they don't actually want a 'disc' and an uploaded video will be fine (is that right?)

So you tube or Vimeo? Does it matter?

Should I edit it all together (Ballet/Tap/Jazz etc)? or just link to each genre?

Someone tell me what I should be doing?

Apparently Vimeo is the better quality and prefered by 'the industry', well so I've been told by people in the know.

Thanks - do you know how I get people to view it on Vimeo?

Why not just phone the college and ask them for detailed instructions in what they want?
At least it's from the horses mouth then and you will know exactly what they want
That's what I would do... Most people are more than happy to reassure and help..

Apparently they are " fairly sure we can manage with either!"

Which is lovely

So now I need to work out how to do the Vimeo thing & whether to edit it all into one bit or leave it as Genre

I'm thinking all one bit - I wonder if I can do the menu jumping thing :?

Well it's finished but it's taking hours to upload

As it's so long, as well as doing a complete 'show' (type thing) I have also added all the individual clips so if they want to see just ballet or just tap they don't have to sit through DD whittering away ;)

I'm very proud of my editing & IT skills (especially as I didn't have any before Easter this year) and I'm also proud of how good DD looks

Whether it's good enough; we won't know because if she doesn't get a place it's may be because she just wasn't good enough or because a DVD never stands up against a live performance or because if she couldn't attend the audition asking us to do the DVD was a way of letting us down gently.

Fingers crossed
