Post by acting »

is this agency any good, only i have bought the spotlight contact book 2013 which has lots of helpful hints but the are not aloud to choose one agency over another. i was wondering is abacus agency any good and does anyone currently go there if not what agency would you recomend for my DD who loves theatre and films and has already been cast in 5 films all ready and 4 tv programs and a west end performance.

I believe that abacus have a good reputation BUT what suits one actor will not necessarily suit another.

My advice would be to apply and then, if you are invited for a meeting, take a list of questions you want answered based on what you feel is important for you and DD.

In my opinion they have a lot of clear and useful information on their site about the agency and the FAQ is helpful.

They do not charge any fees - this alone makes them worth considering I think!

Did Abacus offer representation without meeting your DD first? That is unusual.

My older DD is with Abacus and very happy there.

Both of my DDs are with Abacus. I think they're great. They've been around a long time and have a good reputation.

They have a select amount of children and they don't waste their time on a flash Internet site (which others do perhaps to lure in a large amount of clients?!)

My children have regular work (a few jobs a year - mostly adverts and music videos). I'm very happy with them.

Good luck with your choice.

Abacus only do work shops about 2 times a year don't think they have had one this year. My DS is with them we are happy but like others some times he gets lots of auditions then don't get any for a wile. They don't wast your time sending you up to London for auditions you won't get they are small which I like, I feel it's the quality not the quantity of audition that matters. Why don't you phone up and ask when the next work shop is going to be.

What will it cost to join the agency?
We do not charge fees to join Abacus and only take our commission when you have received payment for work. However, we will require you to supply professional photographs of yourself and to pay for an annual entry into the Spotlight casting book. This also covers your entry onto the Spotlight casting web through which more and more casting is now taking place.

I HAVE COPY AND PASTE THIS INFO FROM ABACUS FAQ WEBSITE.... ANYBODY KNOWS HOW MUCH IS THE ANNUAL ENTRY INTO THE SPOTLIGHT CASTING book?
THANK YOU!!
