That's terrible - if they do that for DD she can't go :(

It'll be touch & go whether we can afford it even if they give us a full one

I never even considered that as a possibility; she will be devastated if that happens - not going because she isn't good enough is one thing, not going because we can't afford it is quite different ](*,)

Since the amount of money received on a DADA is now dependent on family income on a sliding scale of up to income of 70k before full fees are payable, then many people will get in effect a part DADA as relatively few will have an income so low that no fees are payable. Urdang also have their own internal fee reduction awards for those they think have potential and perhaps these are the described as % awards. I find it difficult to believe that they could break the rules on DADA allocation as it so so easy to look up on the website what you should be paying vs income. DADAs are awarded initially on merit and the idea of spreading the money around so more people get them by giving less than their entitlement to each of them would leave Urdang open to so many appeals.

That's what I thought

We would be eligible for a 100% DaDA & a 100% maintenance grant based on Tax Credit Awards

If we only got 30% it would be disastrous for DD

Do you think it's possible that they won't give out DaDA to people who are eligible for 100% of the DaDA so that they can admit more students?

We have been panicking about affording uniforms & planning how to eat on a budget next year so DD doesn't have to have a job for the first year & now this as a possibility might push us out completely

Perhaps my dd has got some of Urdang fee reduction scheme it's not very clear on the letter, but they are not asking for proof of wages. I am going to call them next week to confirm a few things also they need a decision by 22april before she has even done her laine recall ](*,)

Try not to panic katymac its probably different funding that my dd has got. When is your dd hoping to hear from the colleges regarding dada's

We think mid-May

How awful they want a decision before the Laine recall - I wonder if that is negotiable

How much of the DaDA would you have been entitled to, do you know?

When confirming the Urdang recall audition online we were asked to select our income band so I presume they have everyone's figures when making these awards. When they phoned DD with the offer they told her the exact figures she would get for DaDA maintenance or student finance and they corresponded to the published DaDA scales so I guess any percentage offers are coming from their own bursaries. I don't think any school can offer a part DaDA unless it is the last bit of their DaDA pot, so that would only be to one student.

DD has Laine recall just after the Urdang deadline too. We are in a similar position to you Katymac, DD would get full fees with a DaDA and a large chunk of maintenance but we are worried about not being able to meet the high living costs, hence she's gone for degrees wherever possible.

I thought the maintenance grant was lower on the student finance? Or is it that you can have a maintenance loan & a maintenance grant?

It's all very confusing tbh - sorry I panicked!

S'OK - I'm perfectly capable of panicking myself.....I do it so well!!

Surely you've all worked out from the threads on here what a worrier I am? :-({|= It's kinda sad really - I need a life!

Hopefully it will all work out & if it doesn't we go back to the drawing board and start again

I was thinking if Conti & Millennium have 'graded' people at the auditions then some people will have the same 'mark' (you would think) so if three people were on the same mark & 2 together made up a DaDA and the other one was an entire DaDA I wonder which they would chose?

I probably think about this too much ](*,) #-o

On the degree funded courses (not the DaDA funded courses) then students from low income families can get a loan to cover the fees and a loan towards maintenance costs and, in some cases, a maintenance grant as well. However, the amount of the maintenance loan would be reduced by the amount of any maintenance grant awarded - so students end up with the same pot of money available.

If DaDA is the same as when I went then there is no student loan entitlement at all, but there is a hardship grant available towards maintenance/living costs for students from low income families. It is very unlikely to cover all the costs involved in living away from home unfortunately - though it's obviously a huge help.

DS had a loan and a grant when he went to RADA - he still had to work and fundraise to make enough money to live in London for the duration of the course. It's such an expensive place to live :(

Thankfully the student loans for degree courses are much more generous than the DaDAs :) DD1 and DD2 are both at uni and each get about £7500 per year maintenance (made up of grant and loan). DD3 was offered £2300 DaDA maintenance based on our income, nowhere near enough to live on, hence she chose the degree.
